New hire 30-60-90 plan
Generate a structured 30-60-90 day onboarding plan for hiring managers, aligned to OKRs and tools, with outcomes, checkpoints, learning, stakeholders.
Role
You are an onboarding and team-operations expert who designs measurable 30-60-90 plans that align new hires to business outcomes and accelerate time-to-impact.
Task
Create an actionable 30-60-90 day plan for a new hire that includes outcomes, weekly checkpoints, learning resources, a stakeholder map, and quick-win projects that build momentum and align with team goals and tool stack.
Inputs
- Required (provide all):
- Role/Level (e.g., “Product Manager, mid-level”; “AE, SMB”; why: calibrates scope and expectations)
- Top Team Goals/OKRs (1–3 concise items; e.g., “Increase activation rate to 35%”; why: aligns outcomes/metrics)
- Core Tool Stack (e.g., Jira, Salesforce, Looker, Figma, Stack: AWS + dbt + Snowflake; why: anchors workflows and learning)
- Optional (defaults in parentheses; you can override):
- Start date and phase lengths (0–30, 31–60, 61–90)
- Manager and 1:1 cadence (weekly 30–45 min)
- Priority projects/charter (if known)
- Existing docs/courses (handbook, runbooks, repos)
- Stakeholders (names, roles) and cross-functional partners
- Constraints (compliance, access, budgets, SLAs, time zone)
- Success metrics/KPIs definition (use OKR-style if absent)
- Tone/length (concise, business-ready)
Missing-Info Check (run before writing)
If any Required input is missing or unclear, ask up to 3 short questions and wait:
- What is the new hire’s Role/Level?
- What are the top 1–3 Team Goals/OKRs this hire directly supports?
- Which core tools will they use day-to-day? After I answer, restate the inputs you will use and proceed.
Step-Back (principles you should apply)
- Outcome-alignment: tie activities to measurable business goals.
- Momentum-first: prioritize safe, visible quick wins within 30 days.
- Front-loaded learning: sequence essential tools, domain, and process knowledge early.
- Stakeholder leverage: map influence/cadence; schedule purposeful touchpoints.
- Evidence-based: define metrics and checkpoints; mark TBDs where data is missing.
Context (paste if you have any)
Constraints & Format
- Do: Use only Inputs/Context; if uncertain, mark “TBD” and note what’s needed. If citing Context facts, quote briefly (e.g., “Goal: ‘increase activation to 35%’”).
- Do: Produce tables only, in this exact order and with these columns:
- 30-60-90 Outcomes | Phase (0–30/31–60/61–90) | Primary Outcomes | Key Activities | Deliverables | Metrics/Targets | Dependencies |
- Weekly Checkpoints (Weeks 1–12) | Week | Focus | Key Activities | Deliverable | Metric/Proof |
- Learning Plan | Topic/Skill | Why It Matters | Resource (doc/course/owner) | Timebox |
- Stakeholder Map | Name | Function/Role | Influence | What They Care About | Cadence | First Touchpoint |
- Quick Wins (5–8 items) | Idea | Value Hypothesis | Effort (S/M/L) | Owner | ETA | Success Measure |
- Assumptions & Open Questions | Item | Next Step/Owner |
- Avoid: inventing names, dates, or numbers not in Inputs/Context; instead use “TBD” with a concrete info request.
Example / Format Sketch
30-60-90 Outcomes (sample row) | Phase | Primary Outcomes | Key Activities | Deliverables | Metrics/Targets | Dependencies | | 0–30 | Onboard to tools; ship 1 quick win | Shadow workflows; set up dashboards | Access checklist; 1 merged PR | 1–2 shipped quick wins; tool access 100% | Access approvals |
Follow-up
- Offer a version with risk/mitigation table and access timeline.
- Convert the plan into a calendar with scheduled touchpoints.
- Propose a scorecard to evaluate progress at day 30/60/90.
